Kitchen Cleaning Tips That Are Actually Genius

As we near the hosting season, it’s crucial to make sure that you’re using hacks to keep your kitchen clean so you can spend more time with friends and family. Here are seven tips that are genius and will help you focus on what matters most.

 1. Use Lemon and Baking Soda to Make Your Sink Shine

The best way to make your sink shine is by using a lemon and some baking soda. Cut a lemon in half, sprinkle baking soda and scrub your sink with it. The combo naturally cuts through grease, removes odors and leaves your kitchen smelling fresh.

2. Clean Your Garbage Disposal with Ice Cubes and Citrus

On top of cleaning your kitchen, you can also use a similar method to clean your garbage disposal. Toss a handful of ice cubes and a few lemon or orange peels into your garbage disposal. Run cold water and turn it on for 10 to 15 seconds. The ice sharpens the blades and the citrus deodorizes instantly.

3. Oil Your Stainless Steel for a Streak-Free Finish

You can also make your stainless steel sinks look brand new with just a little bit of oil. After cleaning your stainless appliances, apply a tiny bit of olive oil to a microfiber cloth and wipe in the direction of the grain. It keeps fingerprints away and gives it some shine at the same time.

4. Steam-Clean Your Microwave with a Mug

One of the easiest ways to clean your microwave is by simply filling a microwave-safe mug with water and a splash of vinegar. Just heat it for three to four minutes until it steams. Let it sit for another few minutes with the door closed. The steam loosens dried-on food, so you can wipe everything clean in seconds. No scrubbing needed.

5. Run Your Dishwasher Empty with Vinegar

Another easy hack is running your dishwasher with vinegar. Once a month, pour one cup of white vinegar into a dishwasher-safe bowl and place it on the top rack. Run the dishwasher on the hottest cycle. This dissolves grease, kills odors and keeps it working efficiently.

6. Use Salt to Tackle Cast Iron Messes

Never use soap on cast iron. Instead, sprinkle coarse salt into the pan, add a little warm water and scrub with a sponge or paper towel. The salt acts as a gentle abrasive, removing residue without damaging the iron.

7. Keep a “Quick-Clean” Basket Handy

Keep a small basket under your sink stocked with essentials. From multi-surface spray, and microfiber cloths to baking soda and a small brush. When spills happen or guests are on their way, you can speed-clean in under five minutes.
