Hoddy Hanna Honored for Commitment to Pittsburgh Community

For Howard “Hoddy” Hanna, success has always been about more than what’s going on in the world of real estate. It’s been about giving back to the community of Pittsburgh, the place where Howard Hanna has called home since its doors opened.

Recently, multiple Pittsburgh-based organizations recognized Hanna for his longstanding commitment to service.

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Pittsburgh honored Hanna as a 2026 Caritas Award honoree. The distinction recognizes his leadership and dedication to serving the community. Hanna has been active in Pittsburgh’s Catholic community for years and has continued to find innovative ways to give back.

In addition to being a recipient of the Caritas Award, Hanna was honored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh at the 2026 Pursuer of the Peace event. Hanna, a founder of Family House, was honored alongside co-founders Joel Ettinger and Mary Lou McLaughlin.

Family House is a nonprofit organization that provides a “home away from home” for patients and their families who travel to Pittsburgh for medical treatment. Hanna helped found the organization in 1983 and served as Chairman during the 1990’s.

This summer, Hanna was named a Trustee Emeritus of the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. Hanna has served as a trustee since the inception of the Foundation Board in 2001 and additionally served as Foundation Chair for six years.

The University of Pittsburgh School of Business awarded Hanna the H.J. Zoffer Medal for Meritorious Service. The Medal for Meritorious Service recognizes significant service and contributions to the business school and community.

“Pittsburgh has been home to Howard Hanna for a long time, so it’s a tremendous honor to be recognized by so many distinguished organizations that make such a difference in the community,” Hanna said. “I’m deeply grateful for these recognitions and for the opportunity that I have to give back to the city that is so special to our family.”

Since 1957, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services have made it a goal to invest back into the community. From local partnerships to helping charitable foundations, the company has always aimed to connect with those around it. Hoddy Hanna’s commitment to these causes and the Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fund is a perfect representation of that.
