Pittsburgh, PA — On Sept. 12, 2023, the Pittsburgh community came together to celebrate an evening of giving and recognition at the annual Catholic Youth Association (CYA) dinner, hosted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Rooney family. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the esteemed John McGrady Award to Helen Hanna Casey, in acknowledgment of her exceptional dedication and service to the Pittsburgh community.
The John McGrady Award, a cherished honor within the CYA, is bestowed upon individuals who have consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the betterment of Pittsburgh through their tireless efforts, dedication and community engagement. This year, Helen Hanna Casey was chosen as the deserving recipient for her outstanding contributions to the region.
The annual CYA dinner was held at Acrisure Stadium, bringing together Pittsburgh’s leaders in business, education and sports to combine efforts to help the CYA serve the most vulnerable in the community – children and the elderly.
This year, CYA celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Art Rooney Award Dinner, and with that in mind, the organization honored Art Rooney II, who received the Art Rooney Award, presented to an individual for their service to the region and caring for the community the way Art Rooney Sr. did.
Additional awards were presented to Damar Hamlin, a McKees Rocks, Pa., native and former University of Pittsburgh defensive back, who currently plays for the Buffalo Bills; and Karen Feinstein, president and CEO of the Jewish Heritage Foundation.
Congratulations to Helen and all of the award recipients.
