A hidden piece of Pennsylvania history was recently saved in Fox Chapel. A log home dating back to the 1780’s has been purchased by the borough and will become part of its expanding park system. The historic cabin, which is believed to be one of the state’s earliest surviving homes, was largely unknown until it recently hit the market.
Local leaders, the Fox Chapel Parks Conservancy and generous community donors came together to secure the $675,000 property. The acquisition preserves both a significant historic landmark and a beautiful natural landscape.
The property will eventually connect to Fox Chapel’s existing parks through new trails, giving residents even more opportunities to explore and enjoy the property. Fundraising efforts are continuing to help prepare the site for public access, maintain the property and support future conservation projects.
Long-term plans could see the historic cabin transformed into a welcome center or educational space, creating a place where visitors can experience both the area’s history and natural beauty. It’s a meaningful investment that reflects Fox Chapel’s commitment to preserving its past while enhancing its future.
