The Best Practices Agency honor is awarded to participants in Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America’s (IIABA or the Big “I”) Best Practices Study. The Best Practices Study is a comprehensive analysis of the business operations and performance of the insurance industry’s top-performing independent agencies.

Since 1993, IIABA and Reagan Consulting, an Atlanta-based management consulting firm, have partnered to identify and benchmark the country’s leading agencies in seven revenue categories. Agencies earn their Best Practices Agency designation every three years through a highly competitive nomination and qualification process, and must rank among the top performers within their respective revenue category.
From the country’s 1,190 independent insurance agencies nominated during this current three-year study cycle, only 300 agencies qualified for and kept their Best Practice Agency plaudits. The 2026 study year marks the second year of this cycle, with agencies submitting detailed financial and operational information for annual review in order to maintain their Best Practices status.
